Working Principle Activated carbon filter is a kind of pressure vessel, filled with a bedding layer of coarse quartz sand and high grade activated carbon. Activated carbon absorption principle: A layer of balanced surface concentration is formed on the surface of activated carbon particles; then, organic impurities are absorbed into the particles.
Application Scope • Boilers and domestic water treatment • Iron and manganese removal for underground water • Swimming pool water/scenic water purification • Pretreatment for desalination, reverse osmosis, and electrodialysis • Industrial waste water and reclaimed water treatment
Adsorption capacity of activated carbon is also associated with activated carbon particle size. Generally speaking, the smaller the activated carbon particle, the larger the filtering area. Therefore, powdered activated carbon has the largest filtering area and the best adsorption effect. However, powdered activated carbon is seldom used, because it is easy to be swept into the water tank, and is difficult to control. Granular activated carbon is not easy to be swept by water, and organic matters and other impurities in water will not block the activated carbon filter layer. Therefore, granular activated carbon has excellent adsorption capacity and high portability, and is convenient to replace.
Adsorption capacity of activated carbon is directly proportional to water exposure time; the longer the exposure time, the better the quality of water after filtration. Attention: The filtered water should flow slowly out of the filter layer. New activated carbon shall be washed clean before first use. Otherwise, the outlet water will be inky black. Before putting activated carbon into the filter, lay a 2~3cm thick sponge at the top and bottom of the filter respectively, to prevent penetration of algae and other large granular impurities. After the activated carbon is used for 2~3 months, if the filtration effect is reduced, the activated carbon shall be replaced. The sponge layers shall be replaced regularly as well.
